User manual

Momento installs from Steam and runs on Windows 10 (version 2004 or newer) and Windows 11. There is no Mac or Linux build. A recent GPU (NVIDIA, AMD or Intel) is recommended — hardware encoding on all three is supported.

1. 1.Buy Momento on Steam and install it from your Steam library.
2. 2.Launch it: the app opens straight away — no account to create, nothing to set up.
3. 3.That’s it. Launch a game and Momento is ready to capture.

On first launch, a short multi-screen intro covers the essentials: welcome, the gestures (Ctrl+F9, Ctrl+F10, Ctrl+F8), your clips, your games and your preferences.

The top bar is your permanent dashboard.

• On the left: the Home, Moments, Instants, Sequences and Notebook tabs.
• Center-right: the capture capsule (shows the detected game and the capture state).
• On the right: Help (?), Settings (gear), Quit Momento (power icon) and the window buttons.
• On the left edge: the Tools rail — two quick actions (Make a clip, Snipe) and the gamer tools: Crosshair Studio, Cursor, Sensitivity Converter, Reaction Trainer.

Capture arms as soon as Momento is open. Launch a game: Momento detects it and starts monitoring the match. The capsule at the top confirms which game is being tracked.

In-game, press Ctrl+F9 (the default shortcut) to keep the last few seconds. You can also click “Keep the moment” in the capture capsule at the top.

An anti-spam guard prevents double triggers: a quick double press only creates one clip. Capture must be active (a game detected) for Ctrl+F9 to work.

As long as a game is being captured, a rolling buffer runs in the background. When you make a clip, Momento retroactively saves what just happened — you never miss a highlight.

Nothing is kept until you clip: no giant file growing continuously.

Momento can save highlights on its own — detected via the game’s API (CS2, LoL) or by reading the on-screen killfeed (Valorant) — without you touching a key.

• CS2: triple kill, quadra kill, ACE, no-scope.
• League of Legends: triple kill, quadra kill, pentakill.
• Valorant: multikill (3+ kills in quick succession), detected by the analysis engine.

On Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, Apex Legends and Overwatch 2, Momento also reads the clip’s killfeed afterwards: kills, weapons and multikills show up in the clip context panel. Enter your exact in-game name in Settings → Games & moments → In-game names to enable it.

2. 2.Toggle “Enabled” / “Disabled” (enabled by default).

In the same tab, the “Analysis engine” (beta) is the brain that reads the killfeed and analyzes your clips in the background. It is off by default: turn it on to try Valorant auto-clips and game context, knowing it can still make mistakes. The change takes effect when the app restarts.

2. 2.In the “Manual clips: length” section: pick 30 sec, 1 min or 1:40 (30 seconds by default).

The length of automatic clips (triple, ace, pentakill…) is set by the action and isn’t configurable.

A small sound confirms that a clip was kept. You choose which one.

2. 2.Click a variant to hear it (Whoosh, Tap, Ping…) and select it.
3. 3.Or click “Import a sound… (wav, mp3, ogg)” to use your own.

Your clips appear in the Moments tab. On disk, they’re stored by default in Videos\Momento — the location is changeable in Settings → Storage.

To record a full match (up to several hours), with game events embedded, use REC mode.

1. 1.Press Ctrl+F10 to start recording; press Ctrl+F10 again to stop it.
2. 2.Or click the capture capsule at the top → “Recording” page → big “Start REC (Ctrl+F10)” button.

REC can only start if a game is being captured. When stopping, a “Finalizing…” step can take up to about thirty seconds on large files — that’s normal.

All your long recordings live in the Sequences tab (all-games view, grouped by date). Click a sequence to open it in the game’s Reviewer.

• Rename a sequence, assign it a role (Top, Jungle, Mid, ADC, Support).
• Filter by name or note, and by game.
• Multi-select to delete in batch.

2. 2.Choose the recordings folder (default Videos\Momento\Recordings — separate from the short-clips folder).
3. 3.Choose the quality: Light (12 Mbit/s), Balanced (25 Mbit/s) or Cinema (50 Mbit/s).

The quality applies to the next REC; a recording in progress keeps its initial quality.

Press Ctrl+F8 (by default) to capture the current game frame — or the full screen outside a game. The capture lands in the Instants tab.

1. 1.Press Win+Shift+S (by default, Momento replaces the Windows capture tool), or click the “Snipe” button in the Instants tab.
2. 2.The screen freezes. Pick a mode at the top: Rectangle, Circle, Freeform, or Text (OCR).
3. 3.Drag to select the area (a single click = full screen).

The area is copied to the clipboard AND saved to Instants. Esc, right-click or the cross cancel.

1. 1.On first launch, Momento enables “Replace the Windows capture tool”: Win+Shift+S opens Momento’s Snipe instead of the Windows tool.
2. 2.To go back to the Windows tool: Settings → Shortcuts, disable the option — Snipe then returns to Ctrl+Shift+S.

The Instants tab arranges your captures in a grid, by date.

• Thumbnail size: drag the zoom slider in the header, or zoom with Ctrl + wheel (pinch on a trackpad) right on the grid.
• Search (“Filter name or game…”) and game filter (appears when there are several games).
• Hover an image to copy it; click it to open the viewer (arrows, wheel, Esc).
• In the viewer: copy, translate, edit, rename, open in the explorer, delete.

In the viewer, click the brush icon (“Edit”) to open the full-screen editor.

• Tools: Selection (move/resize, Del erases), Hand (move the view), Pencil, Shapes (arrow, rectangle, ellipse), Text, Eyedropper (grabs the color of a pixel in the image), Blur, Crop, Magic wand (makes a flat background transparent).
• Color: quick palette, color wheel and hex code (#), with an eyedropper to sample a color from the screen. Thickness and text size (2 / 4 / 8 / 14). Rectangle and ellipse have an adjustable fill opacity to highlight an area.
• Wheel zoom + − / % / + buttons, graduated rulers, and an Undo (Ctrl+Z) / Redo (Ctrl+Y) history.

To save: “Copy” (clipboard), “Save copy” (creates a new Instant), or “Overwrite the original”.

2. 2.Click the “Translate the text” icon (Languages).
3. 3.Momento reads the text (multilingual OCR — Cyrillic, CJK, etc.) then translates it into the language of your choice (French by default).

You can copy the original text or the translation. This feature requires an internet connection.

The mini-editor opens from a clip or from a recording.

• From a clip: open it (Moments tab) then click “Edit”.
• From a REC: in the Reviewer, click “Edit”.

It’s the same tool in both cases.

• Select a segment by clicking it, then set its speed (0.25× to 4×).
• The handles at both edges of the track trim the start and end.
• The filmstrip under the track shows the clip's actual frames: click or drag it to scrub.
• Grab the inside of the frame and drag it to move the selection without changing its length — handy to isolate the best moment.

The editor works on a single clip: you keep or remove parts. It doesn’t stitch several videos together and has no timeline zoom.

If the clip has separate tracks (Game / Windows), you can mute them, solo them or set their volume — you hear it live.

On export, the edit keeps one track: Game only, Windows only, or the full mix (default).

2. 2.For a clip from the library, you’re asked whether to keep or delete the original.
3. 3.The edit (one MP4 file) appears in Moments.

There’s no quality/format choice or progress bar: on a long clip, the “Saving…” button may seem stuck for a moment — that’s normal.

1. 1.In the editor, keep a short passage (15 seconds max rendered) and click the “GIF” button.
2. 2.Pick a size — Small (320 px), Medium (480 px) or Large (640 px); a weight estimate is shown.
3. 3.The GIF appears in your Stills and is already copied: paste it straight (Ctrl+V) into Discord or a forum.

A GIF has no sound and loops forever. For an extract with sound, save the montage as a video instead (“Save to Moments”).

On a clip where kills were detected, the “KillCut” button (in the clip player) automatically creates an edit that keeps only the kills (about 3 seconds around each). The result is saved as a new moment, without touching the original.

The Moments tab gathers all your clips, grouped by date. Hover a card to play it, rename it, share it, change its thumbnail, add tags, delete it or open it in the explorer. The zoom slider in the top right (or Ctrl + wheel / pinch on the grid) makes cards bigger or fits more per row.

You can replace a Moment's or a Sequence's thumbnail with any Instant from your gallery (edited or not) — handy for a cover that reads better than a random frame pulled from the video.

1. 1.Hover the Moment (or Sequence) card and click the “Thumbnail” button (image icon) in the action bar.
2. 2.In the window that opens, pick the Instant to use as the cover.
3. 3.The page refreshes and the new thumbnail shows right away.

From a Moment or Sequence player, you can turn the shown frame into a new Instant (full-resolution, editable) — perfect to isolate a key moment, annotate it, or use it as a thumbnail.

1. 1.Open a Moment (or Sequence) and pause on the frame you want.
2. 2.Click “Grab frame” (camera icon) in the player bar.
3. 3.The image lands in your Instants, ready to edit or share.

From a long Sequence (REC) you can isolate a passage and save it as a short Moment in your library — the cut is fast (no re-encoding).

1. 1.Open a Sequence (the Reviewer player opens).
2. 2.In the player bar, use “Loop”: one click sets the start (A), a second click sets the end (B).
3. 3.Once A and B are set, click “To Moment” (clapper icon).
4. 4.The cut passage appears in the Moments tab.

The magnifier (or Ctrl+F) in the Moments header filters instantly. You can search by:

• Weapon (CS2) — e.g. ak47, m4a4.
• Map (CS2) — e.g. mirage, inferno.
• Champion (LoL) — e.g. yasuo. Hero (Dota 2).
• Role (LoL) — top, jungle, mid, adc, support.
• Multikill — double, triple, quadra, penta, ace, no-scope.

On supported games, your clips are named and tagged on their own — for example “Triple kill with the AK-47 on Mirage” (CS2) or “Quadra with Yasuo” (LoL).

Tags are your own coloured keywords. Create your own (“to review”, “smurf”, “funny fail”…) and stick them on your clips AND your Stills. One shared vocabulary across both galleries: a tag created on a clip is instantly reusable on a screenshot.

1. 1.Right-click a clip → “Tags…” (or the Tags button in a Still’s lightbox).
2. 2.Type a name: if it already exists, pick it from the list; otherwise Enter creates it (with an auto colour you can change).
3. 3.To filter, click a tag in the filter bar at the top of the gallery. Several tags = only the items carrying all of them.

• Shared vocabulary: the same tags show up on both Sequences and Stills.
• Manage: the “Manage” button in the filter bar lets you rename, recolour or delete a tag everywhere at once.
• Your tags are stored locally, next to your media — they survive a cache wipe.

The Notebook is your gamer notepad: builds, strategies, craft checklists, raid plans. Notebook tab — the list of your notes on the left, the editor on the right.

Everything saves automatically: there’s no “save” button. Create a note with “New note”.

• Bold (Ctrl+B), Italic (Ctrl+I), Title, Subtitle.
• Bullet lists, numbered lists, checkboxes (nestable).
• Text size (Small / Normal / Large / Huge), text color, neon highlighter.
• Links: clicking a link opens it in your browser (on a canvas: Ctrl+click).
• Collapsible sections: a title + a chevron to fold or unfold a block (dedicated toolbar button).

Paste an image (Ctrl+V) or drag and drop an image file into the editor. Then select the image to move it, resize it (corner handle) or align it left, center or right.

Alongside classic notes, “New whiteboard” creates a free canvas: place elements wherever you want, move and resize them — perfect for a raid plan, a comp or an annotated map.

• Double-click anywhere to drop text; drag to move.
• Add images, shapes, pen drawing — and even your Moments: clips play right on the canvas, just like YouTube, Twitch or TikTok videos.
• Checklists with a progress counter (rows move together, checked = struck through).
• Collapsible sections: group an area under a title and fold it in one click — the state is remembered.

1. 1.In a note, click “Pin a Moment / an Instant”.
2. 2.Pick from the Instants tab (screenshots) or Moments (clips).
3. 3.A clickable card is inserted: it opens the clip or the image. Your notes and your moments are linked.

Assign a game to a note via the “Game” selector in the editor header. The list then filters by game (when several games are tagged).

You can send a full notebook — text, images, pinned Instants and Moments — to someone else via a simple link.

1. 1.Open the note, then click the “Share” icon at the top right of the editor.
2. 2.Momento prepares the notebook (uploading the images and clips to the cloud), then copies the link (mymomento.gg/carnet/…) to your clipboard.
3. 3.Paste this link wherever you want: Discord, a private message, etc.

When someone shares a notebook with you, you add it to your own notebooks in one of these two ways:

1. 1.The simplest: on the link page (mymomento.gg/carnet/…), click “Open in Momento” — the app opens on the Notebook and imports it on its own.
2. 2.Otherwise, in Momento: Notebook tab → “Import a notebook”, paste the link, then “Import”.

Any clip can become a public link — no account and nothing to set up: Momento uploads the clip when you share.

1. 1.Hover or open the clip, then click “Share”: a window opens to pick, with checkboxes, the info shown around the clip (weapon, champion, KDA, map…). You can also “Mute out-of-game sounds” to keep only the game audio (mutes Discord, music, notifications).
2. 2.The link (mymomento.gg/c/…) is copied to your clipboard.
3. 3.Paste it into Discord, X, Facebook or any chat.

Capture works on almost all PC games. Around forty known games are recognized and captured automatically the moment they launch, and smart recognition (automatic clips, tags, game context) covers a precise list — CS2, LoL and Valorant first.

1. 1.Go to Settings → My games: every known game is captured automatically there. Turn off the ones you don't want recorded in one click.
2. 2.Your game isn't listed? Add it via “Scan open games” or its process name (e.g. VALORANT-Win64-Shipping.exe).

Open a clip: the panel on the right tells the story of the match around the moment. On CS2, LoL and Dota 2, the info comes from the game’s API and follows playback (score, KDA, teams…). Detected kills show up as markers on the timeline — click one to jump to the right moment.

• Valorant: no API — Momento reads the on-screen killfeed afterwards. Kills, weapons, multikills and your agent are shown, prefixed with “≈” when the reading is approximate.
• Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Overwatch 2: same killfeed reading, provided you entered your exact in-game name in Settings → Games & moments → Auto moments (“In-game names”).
• On Valorant, the name is detected on its own when the Riot client is open — the field only serves to force a value.

The Reviewer is for rewatching a match: a video player with event markers (kills, objectives…) on the timeline. You open it from a sequence (Sequences tab) or from a clip. It’s the tool designed to analyze your matches and improve.

Crosshair Studio draws your crosshair and shows it over any game (transparent, click-through layer). Open it from the Tools rail on the left.

1. 1.Pick a model from the library (or start from a custom crosshair), then adjust cross, dot, circle, thickness, gap, outline and colors — the preview follows live.
2. 2.Turn on “Show in game”: the crosshair appears as soon as a game comes to the foreground.
3. 3.Advanced panel: import a CS2 code (or a Momento code), export yours, and assign a different crosshair per game (profiles).

• Preview on a game background: import your own screenshots as a test backdrop.
• Per-game profiles: each game can have its own crosshair, applied automatically when it comes to the foreground.

Replace your Windows mouse cursor with a custom one. Open it from the Tools rail on the left (cursor icon).

1. 1.Pick a cursor: the "house" library (Momento colors), the "Gaming" pack (pixel-art), your own image (PNG / .cur / .ani), or your Crosshair Studio reticle.
2. 2.Set the size with the slider — the preview updates live, and the cursor is applied when you release.
3. 3.The cursor is applied to your mouse right away.

• "Enable in games" toggle OFF (default): the cursor is permanent — it stays even after you close Momento.
• Toggle ON: the cursor only shows when a game is detected, and reverts to normal on the desktop.

The custom cursor shows on the desktop, in menus, and in games that use the cursor (inventories, ARPGs, strategy, windowed…). Full-screen aim shooters hide the cursor — there, your reticle takes over.

Keep the exact same aim from one game to the next: the converter computes the equivalent sensitivity, at the same 360° distance. Open it from the Tools rail.

2. 2.Pick the target game (and a target DPI if you’re changing it).
3. 3.The equivalent sensitivity is shown — copy it in one click.

A mini-game to measure your reflexes: click (or press Space) as soon as the screen turns green — too early and it’s a miss. You see your last time, your average over 5 tries and your record, which stays saved.

A small, discreet HUD shows your FPS and CPU / GPU / RAM usage in game. It’s disabled by default.

2. 2.Turn on the switch: the HUD appears when a known game is in the foreground, and disappears on the desktop.
3. 3.On first activation, Momento offers to grant “FPS access” (a Windows measurement group) — required for the FPS counter.

Click the gear at the top right. Settings are organized into categories in a sidebar: Essentials (overview), Capture (Video, Audio, Shortcuts, Recording), Library (Storage), Games & moments (My games, Auto moments), Personalization (Appearance) and System (antivirus, cache, diagnostics).

• Video quality: Light (12 Mbit/s), Balanced (25 Mbit/s, default) or Cinematic.
• Manual clips: length (30 sec / 1 min / 1:40).
• Confirmation sound: pick a cue + import your own.

• Audio source: “All Windows” (game + Discord + music) or “Game only”.
• Microphone: separate track (optional) + device choice.
• Confirmation sound: the variant played when a clip is kept.

Each shortcut is changed via the “Change” button. There you’ll also find “Replace the Windows capture tool” (on by default — when off, Snipe returns to Ctrl+Shift+S) and its “Apply now” button.

• Recordings folder (separate from the clips folder).
• REC quality: Light / Balanced / Cinema.

• Local disk space: what Momento occupies, broken down by game, thumbnails, buffer, recordings and trash.
• Trash: deleted clips stay recoverable for 7 days.
• Automatic cleanup of old unkept clips (disabled by default).
• Clips folder (default Videos\Momento).

• App language: 10 languages (French, English, Spanish, German, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Turkish, Ukrainian).
• Theme: 7 flat themes (change the accent) + 12 animated themes (change the whole palette and animate the background). Applied immediately, no restart.
• “Game colors”: the interface takes on the colors of the detected game (disabled by default).
• Game data language (champions, items, news) — independent of the app language.
• In-game performance HUD: the FPS / CPU / GPU / RAM overlay (disabled by default — see the manual’s Tools section).
• “Replay the intro”.

• “Optimize for Momento” adds Microsoft Defender exclusions to free up CPU during recording (reversible at any time).
• Icon cache: the space it takes up, and a button to clear it.
• Diagnostics: open the clips folder, open the logs folder, “Create a debug dump” to attach to a bug report.

Momento uses the official Windows capture API (the same one as OBS, Discord or the Xbox Game Bar). It injects nothing into your game and never reads its memory.

Since it doesn’t touch the game process, it coexists with anti-cheats without trouble: Vanguard, EAC, BattlEye, RICOCHET. It’s an absolute red line in our design.

By default, everything stays local on your PC. Nothing is uploaded unless you decide so — no hidden upload of your gameplay.

If you choose to share a clip or a notebook, it’s hosted on our cloud infrastructure, in compliance with GDPR and always on your explicit action — and clip links expire on their own after 30 days.

Capture goes through the GPU and the buffer lives in RAM: on a recent gaming PC, the impact is imperceptible.

Let’s be honest: recording alongside your game always has a small cost, and on a very modest spec it can be felt a bit. Momento is optimized to keep that cost to a minimum.

Momento updates through Steam, like your games: Steam downloads the new version on its own, and you get it at the next launch. A “What’s new” summary lists the changes.

The window’s ✕ doesn’t close the app: it hides it in the notification area (the rolling buffer keeps running in the background). That’s intentional — Momento stays ready to clip.

1. 1.To really quit: click the “Quit Momento” button (power icon) in the top bar, then confirm.
2. 2.Or right-click the notification-area icon → “Quit Momento”.

Quitting stops the ongoing capture and closes Momento completely.

• Check that a game is actually detected (the capture capsule at the top shows it).
• The default shortcut is already Ctrl+F9 (safe in-game). If nothing triggers, check that a game is detected, or change the key in Settings → Shortcuts.
• If the clip is empty or black, try setting the game to “Borderless windowed” mode.

1. 1.Go to Settings → My games.
2. 2.Click “Scan open games”, or add the executable manually (the process name is visible in Task Manager → Details).

Changes take effect at the next start of a capture session.

• Keep some disk space: a REC stops on its own under 2 GB free.
• Manage the trash and automatic cleanup in Settings → Storage.
• “Optimize for Momento” (Settings → System) reduces CPU load during recording.
• In case of a bug: Settings → System → “Open the logs folder” or “Create a debug dump” to share.
